Smoothies, Juices and Greens….oh my!

This post I will link up some good websites where I have found some raw/living food recipes, smoothie recipes and juicing recipes.  I will also share with you my own recipes and some photos of what we have been eating, to hopefully offer some support and inspiration to you.

A friend of mine on Facebook is taking pare of the 10 day cleanse hosted by Cleanse America.  I am currently going on about 4 weeks of raw food living and eating, so wanted to share with my readers and Facebook followers some great places where I have found some recipes.  Check these out!

Raw Tortilla Soup by Rawfully Tempting~ I loved it! I am still getting used to the idea of having soup cold, but that is just because I don’t take the time to warm it in my bowl once I make it in the blenderSmile  although this soup is no green, but is red, it still have some powerful celery and cilantro in it.

Blueberry Bliss Smoothie by Rawfully Tempting~ Once I get a high speed blender this one is first on my list to try!  Right now the almonds would probably get jammed up in my blender or not blend enough and I would be choking on almond pieces LOL!

Why should we eat a Raw Food Diet or integrate them into our lifestyle?  Valerie Boutenko discusses the First Green Smoothie in this excerpt on her website.

Green Smoothie recipes and iPad/iPhone APP from the Raw Family~ In the very beginning of my green smoothie journey I was not that adventurous. I needed guidance, so I did purchase the APP for my iPad with many green smoothie recipes and have tried many of them myself and my children too.  It was definately money well spent so that I did not have to search endlessly on the Internet for recipes each morning.

Blending a Smoothie vs. Juicing ~ Valerie Boutenko has described this very well in this excerpt from her book Green Smoothie Revolution.

Raw Parsnip Rice~ I have not tried this specific recipe, however it sounds really goodSmile 

Stuffed Peppers~ I love stuffed peppers for lunch. I will put anything in them really, but here is a good recipe to get you started!

Here are a few of my own recipes that I have made up over the past few weeks:

Every time my son tries a smoothie he will say “Mom, write this one down”. So here is the list of items I have enjoyed and have passed his approval.

Smoothies:

1 cup of Swiss chard

2/3 cup of water

1/2 of an orange – peeled

1 banana

1 cup of blueberries

Pineapple Smoothie:

2/3 cup of water

2 cups of pineapple

1.5 cups of kale, collards or dandelion (I find dandelion very bitter and prefer kale and collards at this point)

Juice:

3 pears

quarter size piece of ginger

pineapple (to taste, depending on how sweet you want it)

Green Juice:

Kale – handful or two

2 celery

1/2 cucumber

handful of parsley

1 apple

1 carrot

1 lemon (you may want to start off with 1/2 lemon and taste first).

Raw Breakfast Boat  Raw Breakfast Boat – all fruit with some chia seeds and coconut flakes – sometimes I will add almond butter to the apples

 

DSC_1485 Raw zucchini pasta with marinara sauce – my favourite lunch! Especially when I get tired of eating a salad. I had some grated carrots and raw mushrooms on the side.

 

DSC_1451 Lunch Salad – each week I usually chop up mixed vegetables to use as salad toppers. Then I just need to add some dressing, and this one has pears added to the mixed greens.

 

DSC_1362 Children’s Raw Lunch – my kids love having a Raw Food Tray for lunch where I will just put out all sorts of things on a tray. This picture is a plate I made for supper one night with dried fruit, lettuce leaves, melon balls, goji berries and seeds were added as well.  They loved it!
