Juice Recipe with the OmegaVERT

After 2 months of my raw food journey I have splurged and purchased a new juicer!  I am very happy that I didn’t purchase a kitchen item too soon into this journey so that I could see really what it is that I needed.  At first, I was making a lot of blender drinks (smoothies), and then moved into a store brand food processor for recipes, but it didn’t last the everyday use of grinding up awesome recipes.  So, I guess this is really my 2nd kitchen item since going raw.  My food processor was on sale at Canadian Tire one week, and I figured since my other was practically split in two, I had better purchase one before someone got hurt with it! LOLOMEGAVERT

So, let me tell you about my juicer! It is the Omega VERT350 that I purchased locally at our TransCanada Kitchen Store in North Bay, ON.

I had previously saw it online for a great price that is not too far from here, and they would ship for free, so the local store was willing to price match! I picked it up that afternoon!  I didn’t even take it out of the box until this morning, right before my road trip.  I knew I was taking a risk trying to figure out an appliance, make the juice and get ready to pick up my friends for our little road trip.  Let me tell you how easy it was! I was able to wash it, get it put together, wash my produce and make my juice and drink it all before having to leave!

It was easy to assemble, easy to clean, and QUIET!!  I don’t know if you recall me talking about how loud my ancient juicer from University years was, but it sounded like a chainsaw, and I swear my neighbours probably wondered what the heck I was doing in my kitchen every morning!  But not the OMEGA!

This juicer is a ‘masticating’ style juicer which is THE best for juicing greens.  It processes at a low speed of 80 RPM which prevents oxidation (oxygen loss), thereby giving the juice a longer shelf life!  So if I really wanted to, I could make litres of juice and store in my fridge for at least 72 hours! Or…take it with me on a trip somewhere!  Tests have shown that this style of juicer also produces a more nutrient dense juice – which I can agree just in comparing flavour!  I make the same juice every morning and the juice this morning tasted like an entirely new juice!

Here are two of my favourite green juice recipes:

Morning Juice:

1 lemon

1 Piece of Ginger Root (a few inches)

5-7 Stalks of Celery

Greens – Swiss Chard this morning (at least 4 leaves)

1 Apple – peeled if not organic

Afternoon Pick me Up:

1 Lemon

4-5 leave of Greens – Collards or Swiss Chard

5-7 stalks of Celery

1 Apple

1 Pear

1/2 English cucumber (peeled)

1 small piece of ginger

Happy Juicing and I will keep you all updated as I juice and experiment…or you’ll have to come to my juicing party to try it out for yourself!
